Funny River Rd. church of Christ
Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth.
(NASB: II Tim. 2:15)
Who We Are
We are undenominational and have no central headquarters or president. The Head of the church is none other than Jesus Christ Himself (Ephesians 1:22-23; Colossians 1:18).
Each congregation of the churches of Christ is autonomous, and it is the Word of God that unites us into One Faith (Ephesians 4:3-6). We follow the teachings of Jesus Christ and His holy Apostles, and not the teachings of man. We are Christians only! (Acts 11:26)
We Are Not A Denomination
The Funny River Rd. church of Christ is independent from all other churches. We do not have ties to any association, convention, or organization. Our work is solely funded by voluntary contributions of our members (I Corinthians 16:1-2; II Corinthians 9:6, 7). We do not seek money from any individual or group outside of this congregation.
We Believe In New Testament Christianity
Too many churches, including some "churches of Christ" have strayed away from what the NT teaches. We strive to adhere to the Word of God in word and deed (Colossians 3:17). Therefore, we take the Scriptures alone as our rule of faith and practice (I Peter 4:11). It is the inspired, authoritative revelation of God (II Timothy 3:16-17). As such, it contains "all things that pertain to life and godliness" (II Peter 1:3).
We gather each week to worship God and encourage one another (Hebrews 10:24-25). On Sundays we follow the reverent, simple, sincere pattern of NT Christians. Therefore, we do the following:
- Pray (Acts 2:42; I Thessalonians 5:17; I Timothy 2:1-4).
- Sing (Ephesians 5:19; Colossians 3:16).
- Remember our Savior’s death in the Lord’s Supper (Matthew 26:26-29; Acts 20:7; I Corinthians 11:23-29).
- Give back to the Lord as we have prospered (I Corinthians 16:1-2) and purposed (II Corinthians 9:7)
- Preach the Word (Acts 2:42; 20:7; II Timothy 4:2).
The Funny River Rd. church of Christ provides Bible classes twice each week for its members and any others who wish to attend. This is part of the church’s work of edifying itself in love (Ephesians 4:11-16), and increasing our knowledge of God’s will (II Timothy 2:15; II Peter 3:18; I Peter 2:2).
